Welcome

Welcome to our new Coaches Newsletter which I hope will be of use to you all.

There are some useful articles enclosed such as our Beginner’s Health Questionnaire and 80-point coaching guide. This has been trialled for a few years now and has been of great use. I wish to thank Martin Edwards for the document and for letting our Association use his work.

The new committee has been formed and we have had our first meeting where we have developed a strategy for the next few years. The two main emphasis is assisting me running the Bowls Wiltshire Youth Academy on 10th May. You can see further details below, but I have been fortunate in gaining the help of Ellen Faulkner to run the Inaugural event. After this I hope we can run at least one more during the Summer. We are also going to be in contact with WIBA to see if we can continue this during the Winter. The next is that Barry Guyer is going to setup a WBCA Web site for us so that we can share ideas, dates, events etc. Watch out for further developments. We will also show all Wiltshire Training events such as the forthcoming Adult Safeguarding in Bowls to be held in May at Devizes and hopefully a Supporting Inclusion - Including Disabled People In Bowls at North Wilts IBC.

The Newsletter and Web site can only work if you can contribute to it too. So please have a look out for any Training exercises that you have developed. Don’t worry if it is a little rough around the edges, we can still use that. Over the many years that I have been Coaching, I have learnt a coaching abbreviation of CASE, Coach And Steal Everything.

I hope you all have a wonderful Coaching season and thank you all for your enthusiasm and dedication.

Youth Academy

We have been extremely fortunate in securing the attendance of Ellen Faulkner who will be coming down to run a session at our inaugural Youth Academy meeting this year to be held at Devizes Bowls Club, Long Street, Devizes SN10 1NW on Sunday 10th. May.  Ellen is a multiple Gold Medal Winner and has played an important role as an Ambassador for Disability Bowls England.

Ellen will host a session with the youngsters and the WBCA coaches will hold further sessions during the day.
